Bake Sale 10/29/09

Our second bake sale went very well tonight! We stayed on Franklin Street until almost 3 am in the morning selling warm donuts and cupcakes! Our total earnings for the night came out to be around $181. Enjoy the pictures, Happy Halloween!

The elephant I befriended last year…

To all the nonbelievers and naysayers who challenged the credibility of my story this summer, I have, in fact, recovered the video documenting my encounter with Dumbo, the Asian elephant I befriended during my trip to Thailand. He’s a very amiable creature– dynamic personality, great listener due to his over-sized ears, sturdy in his beliefs [...]

2008-2009 UNC Habitat Projects

What were looking forward to…

Weekly Update 10/21/09

The meeting on Monday, 19th ran very smoothly; we were all very happy with the great event turnouts and profits from the weekend. We made about $650 since the last meeting! Fall Break for UNC students starts this afternoon, so the Thailand team will be parting ways until next Monday. We aren’t taking a break [...]

Passed $1000 mark!

The entire team did an incredible job over the last couple of days, sacrificing their weekend social lives and Sunday football-watching activies to participate in fundraising events. On Thursday night, we had our very [...]

Weekly Update 10/12/09

We had our 4th meeting tonight, wherein we continued to discuss our upcoming events for October. Our first bake sale on Franklin Street will be Thursday night from 10pm-2am in front of Sutton’s. Colleen evidently lost track of time and baked enough brownies and cookies to feed the greater half of the Triangle area. This [...]

Why are we doing this trip?

Although this particular documentary footage is primarily focused on Myanmar refugees who have fled to Thailand, the state of impoverishment and destitution witnessed in the orphans in the video is only a fragmented glimpse of the current state of Thailand’s rural countryside. This type of welfare and sheer scavengerism is more prevalent than the cynical [...]

Congratulations to the 2010 H4H Thailand Team!

The team has been formed! After four weeks of rigorous interviewing, the 2010 H4H Thailand team has finally come together. We had our first group meeting on September 25th and spent the majority of the time doing some icebreakers and storytelling. As much as I would love to publicize some of the embarrassing stories told [...]
